Cherry Creek Sneak: - Denver, CO. May 1, 2011 ~ 10,000 - 13,000 participants A springtime tradition in the heart of Cherry Creek. Walk or run 5-miles, 5k (3.1 miles), 1.5-mile Sneak Sprint. Chip-timed courses for elite runners and families alike. There is a community component that includes running/walking in costume, and a post-race party hosts 20,000 spectators and includes a beer garden with FREE beer for race participants. This year it will also feature a costume contest with celebrity judges.

First Race in Colorado to Welcome and Highlight Blind Athletes

The Cherry Creek Sneak becomes the first race in Colorado to welcome and highlight blind athletes! This year, the Sneak welcomes blind runners and their guides by featuring separate divisions for the visually impaired. The wave for blind athletes will start 2 minutes before the rest of the race field; all athletes will be chip-timed and will receive a silk cherry blossom at the finish line. Join us in welcoming these incredible athletes to the Sneak! They are an inspiration to us all.


Best Post-Party Around

The Cherry Creek Sneak has the best post-party around. The beer is cold, the prizes are juicy, and there’s a ton of fun waiting for you after the Sneak! Here’s a snapshot of the post-race party schedule: 10 am – noon: Post-race party with free beer courtesy of Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy for ages 21 & over, and free goodies from our vendors. Located on 1st Avenue between Steele and Monroe Streets. 10 am: Cheer on toddlers ages 2 & under at the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children’s Diaper Dash. No registration required – just swing by the padded course located in the Kids’ Fun Zone. Emcee’d by Corey Rose of 9News. 10:15 am: Time for a shout out during an awards ceremony for the top three men’s and women’s finishers in the 5-mile and 5K events. 10:30 am: Dress up your group, run in costume, then get to the beer garden for a costume contest with our panel of celebrity judges including Denver Cruiser’s Brad Evans, Denver Bronco’s Ryan McBean and Corey Rose of 9News! We’ll see you there!

The 2011 Cherry Creek Sneak is Sunday, May 1. 
Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to the start of your event for parking and walking to the start line. 7:00 AM Race day registration opens Race packet pickup begins Clothes check opens 8:00 AM 5K (3.1 mile) Run Walk An alternative to the 5-mile run or walk. Everyone in the 5K will be timed and scored using ChampionChimp® time chips. 8:20 AM 1/2-mile Kids’ Fun Run A free, non-competitive and fun event for kids ages 8 and under. All children must be registered with a signed waiver (registration is free). Register at walk-in locations or on race day only. T-shirt is not included. 8:55 AM 1.5-mile Sprint A great event for kids or runners who want to time their mile. Everyone in the 1-mile sprint will be timed and scored using ChampionChip® timing chips. 9:15 AM 5-mile Run/Walk Everyone in the 5 mile event will be timed and scored using ChampionChip® timing chips. 10:00 AM Post-race Block Party Don’t miss vendor and sponsor booths, free beer garden and a Kids’ Fun Zone hosted by Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and complete with Radio Disney stage, giant slide and fun giveaways from Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children and more. 10:00 AM Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children Diaper Dash Kids ages two and under will test their stamina at the Sneak’s Diaper Dash. We’ll have a padded course for little knees. To participate, come to the Diaper Dash course located in the Kids’ Fun Zone also hosted by the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children. 10:30 AM Costume Contest Dress up your group, run in costume, then participate in the costume contest to be judged by our panel of celebrity judges. Who is this Sneakman guy, anyway? If you haven’t encountered Sneakman at some of Denver’s favorite spots, there’s still time. He’ll be cruising running clubs, popular parks and other events through the month of April, spreading free Clif Bars, smiles and superpowers wherever he goes. Visually Impaired Welcome!

This year, the Sports Authority Cherry Creek Sneak will welcome blind athletes and their guides by featuring separate divisions for the visually impaired. In doing so, the Sneak becomes the first race in Colorado to welcome and highlight blind athletes in this manner. The Sneak will discount event registration to $25 to all blind runners and will waive the registration fee for their guides in the 5K event. The wave for blind athletes will start 2 minutes before the rest of the race field; all athletes will be chip-timed and will receive a silk cherry blossom at the finish line. Participating in this year’s event is Matt Miller, Founder of C Different. C Different is located in Denver and works to create works to create opportunities for visually impaired athletes to participate in athletic events. Since its inception, C Different Foundation has encouraged numerous athletes to realize their potential through sports. Matt continues to change people’s perceptions of the visually impaired. His feature-length documentary, “Victory Over Darkness,” chronicles the extraordinary lives of four blind triathletes with whom he has worked closely over the years. Among the blind athletes participating is Michael Stone, a runner and triathlete, who owns Colorado Multisport, in Boulder, which sells high performance cycling and triathlon gear. Sneakman continues to make his way around town, visiting running clubs and parks with treats from Clif Bar. This week, look for him at Denver Sport a Social Club’s Softball League, the Bolder Boulder Training Group at Wash Park, Patrick’s Carroll’s, Runner’s Roost in Denver, and the Irish Snug’s Running Club.

The Kempe Foundation for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Abuse and Neglect has partnered with the Sports Authority Cherry Creek Sneak. Racers can make a donation when they register online, and it’s also possible to raise money from friends using online your online pledge page. To sweeten the deal, Denver Magazine has stepped in to give a free one-year subscription to anyone who donates to Kempe through the Sneak. Everybody wins!

The Cherry Creek Sneak even has a race for toddlers! The Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children Diaper Dash is for kids ages two and under. We’ll have a padded course for little knees. To participate, come to the Diaper Dash course at 10:00 am. It’s located in the Kids’ Fun Zone also hosted by the Rocky Mountain Hospital for Children.
